We’re going to try something new.
I decided to share my first set of words on the new blog on this day in particular because it is a special day in my life both professionally and personally. Today is my late maternal grandmother’s birthday. She would have been eighty-nine years old today, but God saw fit to take her home back when I was just five years old in 1993. She was an amazing soprano and musician who inspired the Studio you see today. Many of you don’t know this, but the Studio was initially named The Bass Voice Studio, for her namesake, Flossye J. Bass. But shortly after opening the Studio, I decided to change it to my namesake, but her memory and legacy is a huge part of why I started this Studio.
For those of you who have been around for a while remember the Studio’s e-mail newsletter, The Gazeti, right? It was a bi-monthly newsletter that was sent directly to all of the Studio’s e-mail subscribers at that time. Well, since 2020 started, The Gazeti lost steam due to the ongoing pandemic and many unexpected (but good) paradigm shifts the Studio went through.
I didn’t want to completely abandon the thought of a newsletter or journal, so I decided to bring it to the Studio’s website. We’ll still have the same concept behind it, it’ll just be hosted here instead of in your inboxes. That way, you can some straight here to see and read about the latest happenings with myself and the Studio.
In addition to this small change, I am anticipating and planning for many, many new changes to make your experience with me and the Studio as fun and seamless as possible while ensuring that the Studio provides you with what you need to be at your best vocally and holistically.
The additional changes will be announced very soon, but in the meantime, I just wanted to give an official welcome to the new blog version of The Gazeti.
As a little present for the new year, enjoy a small clip of my grandmother singing the classic God Is Standing By x Walter Hawkins. I was also asking to sing this song in her memory several years back at a reunion concert - the small clip is below as well.
The audio isn’t that great in either clip, but the essence is still there.
