AUDIT SESSION PREP RECOMMENDATIONS

The Audit Session is a time where you can get some detailed commentary about your voice from the Studio. In order to do that, we have to hear your voice enough to be able to provide the feedback you’re looking for.

So first thing’s first — decide if you want to show Jaron your voice live during the Session or you want to play a video or audio file to observe with Jaron during the Session.

And remember, for the session, the Studio will not make recommends or suggest any material for you to perform, so it is completely up to you to your material prepared.

Scroll down to see how to be prepared whether you’re a singer or speaker.

Singers

If you choose to sing live during the Session…

  1. Typically, you will sing the entire song (~4 minutes) during your Audit Session. This song should be whatever song you’d like. This song can be a song you wrote, a song you know, or a song you’re working on that’s up on its feet. At the end of the day, we highly recommend using a song that you choose. Since this is your Audit, let us hear what you want us to assess.

  2. You are allowed to sing a cappella, with a track/instrumental, or with a live instrumentalist(s) — even if that instrumentalist is yourself. We just recommend that you deliver your selection in a way that best suits and showcases what you want us to hear for our Assessment. If you choose to use a track/instrumental, please ensure that there is no lead vocals on the track in anyway, shape, or form. We want to hear your voice.

  3. Come into the Audit Session vocally warmed up and ready to go. By this, we just mean vocalize for a little bit - like between five to fifteen minutes before the Session itself. That way, your voice is revved up and ready to go.

If you choose to use a video to audio file to watch/listen to with Jaron during the Session…

  1. You can upload your file to a hyperlink (something like YouTube, Google Drive, Dropbox or something) to share with the Studio at the time of your booking.

  2. When you book the Audit Session, you can share the link to the file on the intake form when prompted.

  3. The song in the video/audio file should be whatever song you’d like. This song can be a song you wrote, a song you know, or a song you’re working on that’s up on its feet. At the end of the day, we highly recommend using a song that you choose. Since this is your Audit, let us hear what you want us to assess.

  4. You can use an old video/audio, or you could record something on your phone or camera and use that as your file to upload — totally up to you.

If you are stumped with a song to choose (whether you’re singing live or playing a file), you can also choose any song from the playlist we compiled below or use the playlist as idea starter to choose your own song.

Speakers

Typically, you will speak for at least five (5) minutes during your Audit Session. So to do that, we highly recommend finding an excerpt that shows us your voice in the way you’d like for us to hear. Maybe you want to pull out a monologue? Or use a transcript from your podcast? You could even want to use a part of a recent sermon you wrote? Whatever you choose, make sure you’re confirmable with it.

If you’re not sure of what to do for your session, we complied a few excerpts and such from our resources. You can use one of these if you’d like.
