Singers and speakers use the same anatomical parts to produce sound and express themselves - they just do it in different ways. So it is important for both the singer and the speaker (the professional voice user) to be aware of how they are using their voice. This way, they can experience and enjoy healthy phonation, engaging and enjoyable voice use, and optimal vocal health and longevity. No matter what genre you like to sing or whether your speak, act, teach, preach, or rap - we want yo to use your voice in the best way possible while being exactly who you are.
WHAT MAKES THIS STUDIO DIFFERENT THAN OTHERS?
The word I use most to describe my studio is…
Eccentric: \ ikˈsentrik \ | adjective: deviating from the recognized or customary character, practice, etc.; irregular; erratic; peculiar; odd.
I’ve never been a ‘regular’ type of person. I am a black male who has multiple degrees in voice-related studies and sings soprano both classically and at church. So since my voice and my singing isn’t conventional, why should my studio be?
I want to make sure my studio holds up the concept of inclusion. This concept simply means that we are welcoming to all types of people and all types of artistry. We just want our clients to be the best they can possibly be - no matter who they are or what they do.
WHAT IS IT LIKE IN A PRIVATE SINGING OR SPEAKING SESSION?
I like to make sure that all of our clients get the most out of their time with the studio. Some clients come to the studio to prepare for a recording session or performance, so we won’t treat their sessions the same way we would if another client wants to work on developing their singing technique as a whole. So the progression of sessions with the studio somewhat depends on the needs of the client.
But rest assured, you will learn about your voice, how it works, and you will leave each session with more than you had when you entered the studio that day …and you will have a fun time in the process.
WHAT TYPES OF CLIENTS COME TO THE STUDIO?
We service many types of clients here at the studio. Of course we serve singers here, but we also serve speakers, rappers, teachers… and even athletes — no joke! We like to use the term “professional voice user” here at the studio. This term just means that we include singers and speakers of many types in our offerings because speakers use their voices as much as singers do. If you think about, singers and speakers use the same mechanism to get the job done, so why not help the speaker as well?
We believe in healthy phonation and strong technique for all.
We service clients of any genre, however, this studio has a special place in its heart for those into musical theater, those who are recording artists, and those who are worship leaders, ministers, and pastors.
DOES THE STUDIO CONDUCT SESSIONS VIA VIDEO TECHNOLOGY?
We sure do! We use Skype, Google Hangout, or FaceTime! These sessions are ran just the same as in-person sessions at the studio. We offer this service to those who live far from the studio, those artists who are traveling on the road, and for those who have tight schedules and cannot take the time to travel to the studio. Give it a try!
